One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is engaging directly with parents, educators, and school communities on issues that affect children’s growth and development in today’s digital world.
I recently had the privilege of facilitating a Tea Party Talk Session with parents at Saints Have School, where we discussed one of the most important topics facing families today: Digital Safety for Parents and Their Children.
As technology becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, children are gaining access to smartphones, tablets, gaming platforms, social media, and artificial intelligence tools at younger ages than ever before. While these technologies create exciting opportunities for learning and creativity, they also introduce new challenges that parents must navigate.
During the session, we explored practical strategies parents can use to create safer and healthier digital experiences for their children. Some of the key topics discussed included:
- Understanding children’s online activities
- Setting healthy screen-time boundaries
- Online privacy and personal information protection
- Cyberbullying awareness and prevention
- Safe use of social media platforms
- Digital citizenship and responsible technology use
- Guiding children in the age of Artificial Intelligence
- Building trust and open communication around technology use
One of the major points emphasized during the discussion was that technology itself is neither good nor bad. The real challenge lies in how it is used. As parents, educators, and mentors, our responsibility is not simply to restrict technology but to help children develop the wisdom, discipline, and digital skills needed to use it responsibly.
The interactive nature of the session allowed parents to share their experiences, concerns, and questions regarding their children’s digital habits. It was encouraging to see so many parents actively seeking ways to better understand the technologies shaping their children’s future.
Events like this reinforce my belief that preparing children for the future requires collaboration between schools, parents, and technology educators. When families are equipped with the right knowledge and tools, children are better positioned to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
