Making it to tech events has always been my yearly goal, and I was able to further check that this year.
DevFests are yearly local tech conferences hosted worldwide by Google Developer Groups (GDGs), that bring together visionaries, creators, and tech enthusiasts. They feature insightful talks, hands-on demos, workshops, and codelabs on the latest Google tech, and I was fortunate to experience this year’s edition in my locale.
The opening keynote set the stage for a day of innovation and learning. The first enchanting tech session felt like a masterclass in web development. It was centred on creating fast and responsive web pages (using page insight tool), core web vitals – Large Contentful Paint (LCP), Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS), and First Input Display (FID) – https://www.web.dev. It was an insightful session for me, as it resonated well with me, being a Web Developer.
I had the opportunity to make an input – a summary of the keynotes of the speaker, and I performed well.
We had another session on “Hardening Cluster Security with Google Kubernetes Engine” delivered by another speaker.
A workshop on “deploying applications to Google Kubernetes Engine”.
We had a lunch break and went into another talk session on Talent Acquisition – how to get hired as a techie.
We had another session on “Serverless Computing” delivered by another speaker. Here, I learned about Google Cloud Run and what a container image is.
Honestly, it was a handful of experience for me! The event wasn’t just a convergence of tech enthusiasts; it was a celebration of innovation, collaboration, and the ever-expanding horizon of technology. From web development best practices to the intricacies of Kubernetes and DevOps, the event opened doors to a myriad of possibilities for individuals passionate about shaping the future of technology.
I learned that GDG DevFests are self-funded since they are voluntary. My unreserved appreciation to the GDG Devfest Ikorodu Organisers for making this event a yearly reality.
Looking forward to doing more of this and also volunteering.
